Johnny's In Town - comedy WWI sheet music

Johnny's In Town

Words by Jack Yellen
Music by Geo. W. Meyer and Abe Olman
Copyright: 1919 by Leo. Feist Inc, New York
Format: small

Original retail price: 15¢
Cover art by R.S. (rose logo). Shows an American soldier (doughboy) winking and waving at the ladies.

This is a charming novelty number to be sung by a male vocalist about a soldier returned from France who is dazzling all the ladies because he is now so worldly "He spent two months in Paris!" And the local boys aren't too happy about the attention he's getting!

Also available for your talking machine (phonograph) or player piano.

Lyrics:

Verse 1:
Down in our alley, Each Susie and Sally,
Is rolling her eyes, Up to the skies,
Looking so spooney, I thought they were looney,
'Till one of the girls put me wise.
Their little secret is out, Here's what the fuss is about.

Chorus:
Johnny's in town, Johnny's in town,
And oh, dearie, oh, dearie, he's been aroun'.
He knows French and ev-rything,
You should hear him when he goes "Oo-la-la-la!"
I'm glad he's here, he's such a dear,
And I haven't seen him in a year.
Oh, just think of it Clarice,
He spent two months in Paris,
And oh! oh! Johnny's in town!

Verse 2:
Sweet little cuties and tall stately beauties,
They all love him so;
Why, I don't know.
They look so cheerful, and I get an earful
About him wherever I go.
And ev'ry girlie I see Just loves to whisper to me:

Chorus:
Johnny's in town, Johnny's in town,
And oh, dearie, oh, dearie, he's been aroun'.
Ev'ry time he looks at me,
He just makes me feel so unnecessary!
I'm glad he's here, he's such a dear,
And I haven't seen him in a year.
The French maid I've just hired,
She will have to be fired,
Cause oh! oh! Johnny's in town!
