This wonderful post-war song tells of a man asking a recently returned WWI veteran about his exploits in France. His simple, poignant reply is that the greatest thing that came from France was the boat that brought him home.

Lyrics:

Verse 1:
I met a pal, Who's been across the foam,
I shook his hand, And then said "welcome home";
Well me brother all about dear France and gay Paree,
He paused awhile, then with a smile he softly said to me:

Chorus:
France, is sure a wonderful place,
No one can deny.
Wonderful clime, wonderful wine,
Wonderful place to have a wonderful time.
France, is blessed with beautiful girls,
There's not one thing they lack;
But the greatest thing that ever came from dear old France
was the boat the brought me back.

Verse 2:
Each noble son, Was glad to do his bit,
With sword and gun, He proved his Yankee grit;
When they all reach home again, the place where they belong,
It's only human nature that they all should sign this song.

(Repeat Chorus)
