I'm Aching for the Sight of You

Words by Betram Rose
Music by John H. Meyer
Copyright: 1919 by Leo Feist, New York
Format: small
Cover art Gray-haired mother clutching picture of her soldier son.

According to the interior of this WWI tune, the composer, Mr. John H. Meyer, is the well known baritone of the famous phonograph "Sterling Trio" and "Peerless Quartette."

A real downer of a song, all about a letter an aging mother sends to her son, telling of how she'll soon die, aching for the sight of him. What a dreadful letter to send!

Also available for Male or Mixed Voices (15 cents), and for Band or Orchestra (25 cents).

WWI Lyrics:

Verse 1:
From o'er the sea there comes to me,
A letter just this mornin',
It's from the one that I love best,
My mother, my Ma-vour-neen,
Each line of it is blurred with tears,
A sob in ev'ry part,
I'll read you ev'ry word of it,
It's written on my heart.

Chorus:
"I'm aching for the sight of you,
My days are nearly through,
I'm aching for the touch of you,
The baby hands I knew,
"Tis weary long the night hours are,
I'm old and all alone,
I'm acing for one sight of you,
Come home, my boy, come home."

Verse 2:
"The years pass on, they all have gone,
My life is filled with sorrow,
I dread the coming of the night,
I dread each new tomorrow.
My eyes are growing dimmer now,
I'm feeble, bent and gray,
The end is drawing nearer lad,
I'll soon be on my way."

(Repeat CHORUS)
